Profile
Introducing the Director of CPD
Clinical Psychology Direct is owned and managed by Dr Bobby Sura, Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Although also dedicated to a full time career in the National Health Service, Dr Sura and his team have offered consultations on a private basis since 2005. Through CPD, Dr Sura hopes to offer patients direct and prompt access to psychology and psychotherapy services. It has been his wish to provide a range of consultation options to suit the demands and time constraints of modern life, whilst also meeting a wide range of budgets and personal preferences. Whilst the NHS continues to have a shortage of highly specialised psychological practitioners, and becomes increasingly burdened by long waiting lists, Dr Sura would like those in need to have affordable and timely alternatives.
Qualifications
Chartered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP), Dr Sura has gained over 11 years clinical experience in psychological practice. He has worked with individuals in need or distress across the lifespan, in a range of work settings. He has studied for 6 years to attain two university degrees in psychology, to include a Practitioner Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) from the University of Leicester.
Dr Sura has a further post-graduate qualification as a Systemic and Family Psychotherapist. This has involved 4 years of study and practice through the University of Birmingham. He is also an accredited member of the Association of Family Therapy (AFT), and is eligible for registration with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
The professional bodies to which Dr Sura belongs have stringent membership requirements, to include the need to abide by strict ethical guidelines. In order to renew membership on a yearly basis, there is a requirement to evidence ongoing training and supervision arrangements. AFT, UKCP and BPS accept only those practitioners who have qualified through recognised courses in the UK.

He has also worked within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Birmingham. He currently works as an NHS Consultant within North Warwickshire CAMHS, where he leads a multi-disciplinary team who specialise in intensive assessment and therapy programmes. He has delivered personal development seminars to diverse people across the world, to include North America, India and several countries within Europe. He offers supervision and consultation services to other psychologists, mental health nurses and caring professionals, on a routine basis.
As for private consultancy services outside the NHS, Dr Sura has offices in Worcestershire and the West-Midlands, UK. He is a registered health care provider for private health insurance companies such as BUPA, AXA-PPP and Pru-Health. The scope of Dr Sura's private clinics includes therapy and assessment services, together with medico-legal work for court processes. He also works with individuals who are self-funding.
Areas of Specialism
Dr Sura has access to a number of psychological and mental health practitioners, who have expertise in a broad range of fields and presenting problems. These include a Consultant Psychiatrist, Educational Psychologist, Neuro-Psychologist, Hypnotherapist and Stress Management Counsellor. Following an initial assessment with the CPD service, the best form of treatment and advice can be arranged.
Dr Sura's own training equips him to work with individuals with psychological and relationship needs across the life span. His work draws upon evidence based psychological models, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), cognitive therapy (CT) and systemic family therapy (SFT).
Over the years, Dr Sura has developed a particular specialism within child, adolescent and family psychology. He has expertise in divorce and separation matters, relationship problems, anxiety disorders and depression. However, he has worked with hundreds of children and adults over the years, of differing ages and problems, and can apply this experience to managing and understanding a host of difficulties.
Dr Sura endeavours to offer a professional, yet friendly approach to service users. He would be happy to discuss your requirements informally, before any commitment to fee paying services is made. Feel free to use the 'contact us' section of this website, to ask any further questions you may have.
